Best opening In your opinion, what is the best uncommon opening. (i.e. no sicilian caro spanish italian french etc.)

whoopee! this is very relevant to me, as i have just begun to learn the dutch defense. I believe the dutch defense is THE best uncommon opening. i like the latvian to. ;-)

How about The Vienna Game? I've played a few games with it, and haven't lost yet...

vienna i love playing the vienna game.
1.e4,e5 2.Nc3,Nf6 3.f4,d5 (3..exf4 played a lot by players not familiar with the opening, and is considered bad i think. but i have played some strong players who have played it even still.)

a strange response for white here is 4.Nf3. i have played this a lot in blitz games and do well with it. i think fxe5 is the most common fourth move, followed by Nxe4 for black.

yeah! vienna :)

how about alekhine with 1.e4,Nf6 2.e5, and then 2...Ne4. ? this is something most people wouldn't know about. and if it isn't all that easy for black to beat, maybe it is playable.

uncommon... if we do not consider King's Gambit uncommon, then i would vote for the North Gambit of the central game...(e4,e5,d4,exd4,c3...)...complex but beautiful

Any opening is good The best unusual opening is anyone that you love. As long as you are familiar with the opening anything, no matter how bizarre works fine.

I have sometimes tried... ...and found this okay;

1.e4 e5
2.d4 exd4

I cant transulate this for english, but it would be
something like central game or central gambit.

looks like the danish to me.. maca that looks like the beginning of the danish gambit.. after 2....exd 3.c3 dxc 4.Bc4 cxb 5.Bxb Bb4+ 6.Nc3 Nf6 7.Ne2 Nxe4 ?? 8.0-0 NxN 9.NxN BxN 10.BxB 0-0 11.Qg4 g6 12.Qd4!!! black resigns.this was a game by MORPHY and made the danish popular for a time. 3.....d5 is considered correct for equality but white still has some spice in some lines.this is also a close relation to the goring gambit which is only played after Nf3 on move two then the pawn sacrifice.Black is best to decline both with a timely d5 as white gets a hell of a lot of play and attack for the pawns he loses.......:)

Several come to mind: I am very fond of the Latvian Gambit, Owen's
Defense, and Nimzowitsch Defense on the black side
of the board. On the white side, I like the
Nimzo-Larsen with 1Nf3 preceding b3, the Urusov
Gambit, the Halloween Gambit, 1Nc3, and Grob's
Attack.

Halloween gambit This is a very beautiful gambit to say the least. My favourite of the uncommon openings.

1.Nf3 2.b3 Isn't that a normal line of reti?
