♡ 22 ( +1 | -1 ) KasparovI don't agree with Xerox. I expect Kasparov to see obvious continuations, the difference being that once he'd analysed the continuation deeply he obviously saw something further down the line that he didn't like .......

♡ 12 ( +1 | -1 ) Linares 2005There seems to be some confusion as to who is actually white and who is actually black, at least I seem to see conflicting reports.
Viswanathan Anand 1/2-1/2 Peter Leko Michael Adams 1/2-1/2 Rustam Kasimdzhanov Garry Kasparov 1-0 Francisco Vallejo
Kasparov is relentless!

♡ 46 ( +1 | -1 ) Round 10I listened to the coverage on www.chess.fm and watched the Kasparov game on www.chessgames.com and was as impressed as cairo seemes to have been with how relentless Kasparov has been in this tournament. I was also a little disappointed in Adams. I thought he was going to win that game.
I appreciate the continued updates cairo. Thank you.

♡ 31 ( +1 | -1 ) If anyone has ever had any doubts.......that Garry Kasparov is the strongest chessplayer who ever lived, I think Linares 2005 is a strong argument for this. I always knew he was amazing but at 40 years old he is absolutely dominating the world's top players and his performance rating for linares so far is well over 2900 elo! Kasparov is really a champion of champions!
Garry Kasparov 1/2-1/2 Viswanathan Anand Francisco Vallejo 0-1 Veselin Topalov Rustam Kasimdzhanov 1/2-1/2 Peter Leko
If Topalov win tomorrows game against Kasparov, he is the winner of Linares 2005, any other results will leave Kaspatrov the sole winner!
Best wishes Cairo

♡ 32 ( +1 | -1 ) cairoForgive me, but if Topalov wins today surely he will be level with Garry. The final result depends on the tie-break. They would both have won the same number of games, but Garry has more wins as Black. As far as I am aware there are no plans for a play-off of any kind. I expect it'll be a draw though!

♡ 29 ( +1 | -1 ) Is it just me......or is "number of wins with black" a strange sort of tiebreaker? Why not head-to-head score? With Topalov winning this one 1.5 - 0.5 vs Gary, I have to believe the Linares crown should go to him...not, of course, that Gary wasn't a ravenous beast during this tournament.

♡ 116 ( +1 | -1 ) 14th and final roundRound 14 (Thursday, March 10, 2005)
Peter Leko 1/2-1/2 Francisco Vallejo Veselin Topalov 1-0 Garry Kasparov Viswanathan Anand 0-1 Michael Adams
The Sonneborn-Berger is normally used in round robin tournaments. In Linares another system was in place. Since both players have the same number of points, and the same number of wins (first tiebreak criterium), the winner is the player with most black wins. Kasparov won three games with black while Topalov had just one black win. That made Kasparov the overall winner in this tournament.
Best wishes Cairo
PS! I apologise for my statement about Topalov as winner, in case he won the last game against Kasparov, was a bit to premature, blindio is correct!
